November 2008WE CONTINUE OUR SERIES ON THE ELEMENTS…PERSONALITY RELATED TO THE FIVE ELEMENTS and ASTROLOGY
The spiritual use of “elements” or energies or substances have been incorporated into cultures around the world since day one. These are not the “elements” you learned about in chemistry class on the Periodic Table that represent the atoms which make up our world. Instead, they are forces of nature and/or physical substances that have been important in our survival and lives since ancient times. They are so basic that cultures and religions have gods and goddesses dedicated to them. They are used ceremonially in all major world religions today. In a word, they are ELEMENTAL. For instance, the Chinese use wood, fire, earth, metal and water in their Five Element Table of Correspondences which connects all parts of our lives including health and healing in a holistic way. Native Americans use the Medicine Wheel and the four directions and incorporate their version into sacred ceremony—usually air, water, earth and fire. Other cultures have used different combinations. What is important is that even in this modern world, we connect to these basic forces and substances. Connection with the “elements” simplifies our complicated lives and brings us back to our roots.

PERSONALITY-WISE, WHICH ELEMENT ARE YOU?
PERSONALITY RELATED to THE FIVE ELEMENTS and ASTROLOGY
Human personality can be understood in terms of the 5 Element Theory. Signs of theWestern Zodiac may also be grouped according to the Chinese Elements. Each element is an archetype. In reality, most people are combinations of more than one element or sign. However, your sun sign, or the sign you were born under, may outwardly dominate. The only element not an actual sign is Wood. Wood stands alone and is a combination of all.

The relationship between the five elements, wood, fire, water, metal and earth are a fundamental part of Chinese philosophy. Each element is in control of another element and is dependent upon another element, thus fostering an environment where each element is of equal strength.

Your date of birth has a bearing on your elemental type…

Tidbits about your element … (If the moccasin fits, wear it)

THE WOOD PERSONALITY: The time for Wood is spring, a time for rebirth and new growth, the color green. Although no one is born under Wood, a healthy well-rooted person flows through life. Healthy Wood folks are flexible and flowing. When disturbed, a wood person is emotionally stuck, off balance or angry, confused or up-rooted. Emotionally this leads to aggression and uncontrolled anger.
THE FIRE PERSONALITY: Fire relates to warmth and summer and the color red. A Fire person is warm, caring, enthusiastic, excitable and vibrant. Emotionally, fire relates to happiness, gentleness and forgiveness. Deficiency of the Fire element results in lack of enthusiasm, inability to generate warmth, lack of concern of self or others or difficulty in forgiving. “Burning out” can result in frigidity or impotence. Excessiveness results in inappropriate laughter, hysterical overexcited behavior

THE EARTH PERSONALITY: The season is late summer, the color sunny yellow. The Earth person is grounded and rooted within herself and will feel comfortable in her own skin and the world. Balanced Earth people will be at ease with all situations. She will therefore have sympathy and understanding. A deficiency indicates a person always looking for answers and support outside herself- uncentered, ungrounded.

THE METAL PERSONALITY: The season is autumn, a time of slowing down and harvesting and storing energy for winter. If a Metal person cannot maintain substance, strength and structure, the body and mind will suffer. If energy is circulating she will feel positive and happy. If not, depression, grieving and weeping will occur. There may be a problem carrying out life’s plans. Communication is also a key issue with Metal people (the conduction of electricity through metal). Good communication or a breakdown thereof is possible.

THE WATER PERSONALITY: The season is winter, when all differences are evened out under a thick layer of snow. Nature hibernates, energy is conserved. But water is also fluid and flows. The body fluids must flow freely. A balanced water person has courage, vitality and self confidence. Her life flows like a river. If water energy is blocked, lack of confidence, fears, phobias, despair and spiritual fatigue can dominate.
