THE SCIENCE OF WHITE
-
All Colors: White light contains the entire spectrum. Strictly speaking, white is not a color, but the manifestation of the presence of all color - the complete energy of light.
-
Cones: Cones are the color-sensitive nerve receptors in the human eye. White stimulates all three types of cones in the retina in nearly equal amounts. The primary colors of light are red, green and blue. If our cones cannot pick up all three of these, we are “color blind” for those hues we cannot see
-
Associations: The Goddess, the Moon, the Tide, Ebb and Flow, female energy-Yin and cool and receptive, soothing, calming, patience, forbearance, perseverance, insight.
-
Sources of White Light: The sun, incandescence, fluorescent lamps and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) all generate white light. An object that does not alter the color of light reflected from its surface will appear white, compared to its surroundings.
GOOD WHITE, BAD WHITE

POSITIVE WHITE:
-
White as the Driven Snow: Pure, clean, innocent.
-
White Knight: Stereotype of the pure, good knight who “rescues the maiden”.
-
White List: A list of good, acceptable items.
-
White Sale: A sale of linens-they used to be all white.
-
Pearly Whites: Teeth that are white and clean.

NEGATIVE WHITE (An Oxymoron)
-
Whitewash: Cover up or conceal.
-
Whiteout: Zero Visibility.
-
White Flag: Surrender.
-
White Lightening: Moonshine, illegal whiskey.
-
White Knuckle: Fast, exciting, frightening.
-
White Elephant: Rare, valuable but useless, as in “What am I supposed to do with it?”
